SERVICES AT IBOC ARE: Catered to God and based upon the authoritative scripture of God.
Why do we praise God? BACK TO TOP ^
It is biblically based. Praise is the Christian's way of thanking God for His provision of Jesus Christ and abundant, eternal life. It is written in His Word that if we don't praise God, rocks will cry out in our place.
Psalm 148:13 "Let them praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is exalted; His glory is above earth and heaven."
Psalm 150:1-2 "Praise God in His sanctuary… praise God for His mighty deeds."
Why do we worship God? BACK TO TOP ^
It is biblically based. Worship is the Christian's way of expressing to God their appreciation for "who" He is: Jehovah Jireh (Provider), Jehovah Raah (Shepherd), Jehovah Shalom (Peace), Jehovah Tsidkenu (Righteousness), Jehova Rapha (Healer), Jehovah Nissi (Banner), etc.
Exodus 34:14 " - for you shall not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God (a God who maintains His rights)."
Why do we shout aloud to God? BACK TO TOP ^
We are commanded to shout to God. The believer can outwardly express to God their joy in knowing He is the One and Only, True and Living God.
Psalm 47:1 "…Shout to God with the voice of joy."
Why do we lift our hands? BACK TO TOP ^
We are commanded to lift our hands. The right hand raised signifies "THANKS" to God and both hands raised show our total surrender to God in our lives.
I Timothy 2:8 "Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension."
Why do we sing to God? BACK TO TOP ^
We are commanded to sing to God because He loves to receive praise from us. God used the praise singers in the bible to thwart the enemy's plan.
Psalm 147:1 "Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant and praise is becoming."
Why do we praise God with instruments? BACK TO TOP ^
It is biblically based. When Lucifer was in Heaven, he was beautifully created with fine jewels and timbrels (Ezekiel 28:12-19). He was banished from Heaven for wanting to take over the Most High God's position (Isaiah 14:12). His sinful pride came at a high cost because he lost his leadership role, which was to guard God's throne. Therefore, he is angry that believers approach God with praise and worship.
Psalm 150:3-5 "Praise Him with trumpet sound, harp and lyre, stringed instruments and pipe, with loud cymbals and with resounding cymbals."
Why do we choose to have praise dancers? BACK TO TOP ^
It is biblically based to dance before God. In Exodus 15:19-20 God has already brought Israel through the sea victoriously over the Egyptians! Miriam, the prophetess, took the timbrel in her hand and all the women went out after her with timbrels and dancing. She was courageous to lead the ladies in dance, responding to Moses' song by answering, "Sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted."
Psalm 149:3 "Let them praise His name with dancing."
Why do we clap our hands? BACK TO TOP ^
We are commanded to clap our hands. It is another way to express praise to God.
Psalm 47:1 "O clap your hands, all peoples."
Why do we anoint with oil? BACK TO TOP ^
It is biblically based. Oil does not heal people - God heals people. The oil is used as a point of contact for the person who may be weak in faith.
James 5:14 "Is anyone sick among you? Let them call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord."
Why do we believe in healing? BACK TO TOP ^
It is biblically based. God desires for us to be prosperous in our health just as our soul prospers. Sickness is not from God but from the god of this world, the devil. Divine health is a benefit of being a follower of Jesus Christ. By His stripes, we are healed.
Acts 10:38 "You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him."
